Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the crash happened at 8:15 in the morning.

According to VSP, a 2006 Pontiac, a 2002 Jeep Wrangler and a 2004 Toyota Camry, were all stopped at the traffic light going northbound on Route 32.

A 2006 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer, driven by Ronnie Butner, was also going northbound on Route 32, when the driver struck the Pontiac from behind, causing a chain-reaction crash.

Eley was in the backseat of the Pontiac at the time of the accident. She was transported from the scene with major injuries and later died at the hospital.

Four other individuals were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

Butner, of North Carolina, was charged with reckless driving. Other charges may be pending based upon the case review by the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

Multiple travel lanes were shut down as a result of the crash. Crews were alternating lanes of traffic to get motorists around the scene.
