SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A train collided with a Mercedes-Benz SUV in downtown Suffolk early Thursday morning.
Suffolk Police say that around 1 a.m., a Norfolk Southern train struck a Mercedes-Benz ML320 on the tracks near Railroad Avenue and North Capital Street.
The driver and two passengers in the SUV ran from the scene following the crash. No one on the train was hurt.
Police say they found two of the men who were inside the SUV a short distance from the crash site.
Medics took them to a local hospital for treatment with non life-threatening injuries. Police have not located the driver of the SUV.
A witness tells 10 On Your Side’s Rico Bush that the train hit the back of the SUV and then spun it around to the opposite side of the tracks.
The witness also says the suspects in the car tried to cross the tracks while the barrier was down.
