FARMVILLE, Va. (WAVY) — The Longwood softball team won its second-straight Big South title and is going to its third NCAA Tournament, thanks in part to freshman pitcher Sydney Gay from Smithfield.
Gay tossed three consecutive shutouts in the conference tournament and was named MVP.
“Winning a championship is crazy just starting out as a freshman,” Gay said. “Getting a ring already makes me more hungry to just want to keep playing.”
The Lancers play North Carolina on Friday in the NCAA Tournament regional at James Madison.
