SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a contract this week worth about $5.4 million for waterproofing and repairs on the decks for the approach bridges to the northbound Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel on Interstate 664.
VDOT says the work will help to extend the life expectancy of the structures for another 15 to 20 years. The project is expected to be complete by July 2019.
The waterproofing of the southbound approach bridges was completed in 2014.
All lanes will be open to traffic during peak rush hour periods. Work will be done with single-lane closures on weeknights. VDOT does most maintenance work at night to minimize impacts to drivers.
