Police searching for suspect in Elizabeth City bank robbery

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Police are searching for the suspect involved in a bank robbery in Elizabeth City Wednesday.

At about 10:12 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the Select Bank & Trust, located at 416 S. Hughes Boulevard, for the report of an armed robbery.

When police arrived on scene, they learned that a lone suspect entered the bank, with a mask and handgun, and demanded money. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot toward El Cinoca Drive.

Police described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing between 190 and 220 pounds.

According to police, the suspect appeared to be wearing a navy coat with a hood and a light-colored emblem on the left chest, a hooded sweatshirt underneath the coat, black pants, black shoes and carrying a black duffel bag with a blue or teal stripe.

The suspect was seen getting into a black Mercedes sedan with tinted windows, police say. The vehicle has a large Mercedes decal in the back window.
