Former ODU wrestler suing athletics program for concussion coverup

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A former Old Dominion University wrestler is suing his coaches for $4 million.

Jordan Marshall’s lawsuit, filed in Norfolk Circuit Court, alleges that he lost consciousness three times between May and June of 2014. Marshall claims that when he was concussed his coaches, Steve Martin, Mike Dixon, Alex Dolly and Kyle Hutter, directed him not to complain or seek medical attention. He claims that they encouraged him to continue in practices.

The lawsuit also states that only after Marshall began to convulse, vomit and spit up blood at a wrestling camp, did the coaches make arrangements for him to be evaluated for concussions.

ODU Senior Associate Athletic Director, Debbie White, told 10 On Your Side they could not comment on the legal matter.

10 On Your Side has made a call to Marshall’s attorney, Edward Halloran.
