VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The suspect linked to a Virginia Beach homicide spoke to 10 On Your Side from jail, refusing to state whether or not he is culpable.
“I was told by my lawyer not to say too much as far as whether I did or didn’t commit a crime,” said Jonnathan Miller, 20.
Beach police arrested Miller this week, in connection to a homicide investigation reported on Shallowford Circle May 2.
A neighbor told 10 On Your Side he discovered the body of Devin Lowery, 23, face down shortly before 6 a.m. Lowery reportedly lived feet away from the scene.
Miller told 10 On Your Side that he didn’t know Lowery. He said he doesn’t remember where he was on May 2.
“I don’t have any friends that even they know him, not that I’m aware of, anyway,” Miller said.
Miller believes he was arrested because of phone calls he made around the time of the murder.
“The probable cause was phone calls bein’ made around this time and kind of before and a little bit after the time-frame when he passed,” Miller said. “Phone calls I apparently had made to other people I guess that were involved.”
Miller is charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
He told 10 On Your Side he had previously been charged with possessing a firearm, and was on probation in Chesapeake.
Efforts to reach Lowery’s family members for comment on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
