VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Talk about beginner’s luck! Samantha Strano bought her first lottery ticket for her 18th birthday, a Jewel 7s Scratcher from the Virginia Lottery. That ticket turned out to be a winner. Strano won $200,000.

“It’s kind of mind-blowing,” she said as she claimed her prize. “I never expected to do this.”

According to the Virginia Lottery, she bought the ticket at the 7-Eleven at 841 South Military Highway in Virginia Beach.

“Now I have money to go to college, to nursing school,” she said. The high school senior said she scratched the ticket while she was still in the store but quickly went to her car when she realized it was a big winner.

Jewel 7’s (game #1550) is one of dozens of Scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery. She is the sixth person to claim the top prize in game #1550, which means four $200,000 tickets remain unclaimed, according to Virginia Lottery.

Ms. Strano lives just across the state line in Corapeake, NC. When asked if she intends to keep playing, she replied, “Probably.”
