Founder of 17th Street Surf Shop passes away

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Lee Jones, the founder of the 17th Street Surf Shop, passed away over the weekend.

The company posted about Jones’ passing Friday on Facebook, saying, “Lee was a cornerstone to East Coast surfing and a vital contributor in the evolution of the modern ‘Surf Shop.”

17th Street also stated the following in its statement on Jones’ passing Friday afternoon:

An Icon who carved out a place and a space for what has become a landmark business for the mid-Atlantic region. He will be missed by the entire Surfing Community. The crew here at 17th Street Surf Shop extends our sincere condolences to Lee’s family in this time of loss.
