CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man hit a guardrail and side-swiped a Sheriff’s Office cruiser following a medical assistance call in Chesapeake Monday morning.

Kelly O’Sullivan with Chesapeake Police says a call for “assist medic” was originally received at 10:25 a.m.

A Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the intersection of S. Military Highway and Sparrow Road, and found that a adult male driver appeared to be having a medical emergency.

O’Sullivan says the man drove away from the scene, and was followed by the deputy and an officer into Virginia Beach — where he ran into a guardrail.

The man also side-swiped the deputy’s car, according to O’Sullivan.

There were no injuries in the accident, and O’Sullivan says the man was treated and taken to the hospital for his medical condition.
