VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A woman is in the hospital after police say she led them on a chase that ended with a crash at FTC Dam Neck Monday afternoon.
According to police, it all started with a hit-and-run crash at Pacific Avenue and Norfolk Avenue just after 2 p.m. A white Mercedes fled the scene. About 40 minutes later, police spotted the vehicle matching its description near Prosperity Road and General Booth Boulevard. It was speeding, had a flat tire and was forcing other vehicles off the road, police said.
The officer pursued the vehicle and contacted base police about the chase. A short time later, the vehicle hit a concrete barrier, then crashed into another car before coming to a stop just inside the base. The main gate of the base was briefly closed. A police car was also damaged, when debris from the suspect vehicle hit it.
Police say the driver of the car involved in the chase was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. No one else was hurt.
Charges are pending for the woman following a toxicology report.
