Officers use NARCAN to resuscitate a man in Kill Devil Hills

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – A tourist found a man slumped over in the driver’s seat of a car on Calvin Street and Wrightsville Avenue on Wednesday.

When the tourist found the man, he was unresponsive with a blueish color to his skin. He also did not appear to have a pulse. He then called 911 and two officers responded to the scene. The officers then pulled the man out of the car to being resuscitation.

The officers used a defibrillator and administered a dosage of NARCAN to the man. The NARCAN had an almost instant effect on the man’s pulse, color and his breathing began to return to normal.

Dare County EMS and Kill Devil Hills Fire Department arrived on scene and took over life saving measures. Eventually, the man regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital.

Just hours before, one of the officers finished a training on how to use NARCAN, which treats opiod overdoses.
