Undefeated First Colonial baseball eyes return to state tournament

VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) – Justin Cook says his team has been thinking of it since tryouts for this season. A trip to the state tournament “is always on our mind,” said the multifaceted senior at First Colonial High School.

The Patriots (13-0) have played like a team on a mission. Led by a core group of three seniors, this team is winning without any big-name college or major league prospect. Scott Stubbe has built a program that is a contender among the likes of Western Branch, Granby, and Cox High School.

Cook is the only one who will play at the Division I level next season. A .400 batter for most of his career, he may be the most versatile player on the field, contributing at first base, second, third and pitcher.

He helped lead First Colonial to the state semifinals last season. This year, they’re driven to make it back.
