NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police have arrested a man who was involved with an officer-involved shooting back in March.

The incident happened in the 300 block of Saint Thomas Drive on March 30. Police were called to the scene about a man having suicidal thoughts.

When officers arrived, 36-year-old Nicholas Christopher was wearing a bullet-proof vest marked “POLICE” and was armed with an A-R 15 rifle, as well as a handgun and knife.

During the altercation, police “challenged” Christoper and told him to drop the weapon. At some point, one of the officers shot Christoper at least once in the stomach. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Christopher faces charges of brandishing a firearm and felony assault on a law enforcement officer.
