Dispatchers tell WAVY.com crews responded to the residential fire in the 3900 block of Hedgefield Court around 8:30 a.m..

Art Kohn with Virginia Beach Fire tells WAVY.com one person was transported, but has died. Investigators say the fire was intentionally set, but police are not looking for any suspects.

The victim was a freshman at Green Run High School.

Todd Tarkenton, principal of Green Run, released the following statement in a recorded voice message sent out to students and parents:

It is with a heavy heart I call you today. As some of you may have seen through media reports, one of our freshman students passed away today in a fire at his home. Undoubtedly, this loss will weigh heavily on our students, staff and family here at Green Run. We will have additional counselors at the school tomorrow if any student needs to talk. Our administrators will also be in the hallways and classrooms to check in on students throughout the day. This is certainly a sad day for our school community, so, I ask that we keep this family and our Green Run family in our thoughts as we continue on. Thank you for your support of Green Run High School.
