YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a man Wednesday whose sailboat ran aground 12 miles northeast of Yorktown.
The man’s 33-foot boat had run aground near the New Point Comfort lighthouse in Milford Haven. Coast Guard Station Milford Haven crews were dispatched at 10:04 p.m. Wednesday, and arrived around 11:40 p.m.
The crew towed the boat back to Riverwalk Landing Marina in Yorktown.
Lt. Ashley Dufresne, contingency planner for Sector Hampton Roads, said, “Mishaps like this can and do happen, so we caution boaters to be proactive, to review current and future weather conditions and to ensure they have all proper safety equipment.”
