ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Orlando police say they’re investigating after several swans have gone missing from a local lake.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that officers are actively investigating the case of six missing baby swans from Lake Eola. The cygnets were just one day old when they were discovered missing Tuesday, April 12.

Reports say a park ranger heard the mother swan screaming, and when he went to see what was wrong, the nest holding the swans was empty.

Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan expressed her frustration on Facebook, saying she was furious. Assuming the birds were taken by a human and not a natural predator, Sheehan wrote that she wants to see any theft prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
