Officers hurt and cars wrecked during drug-related arrest in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — Cruisers from the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office were damaged in a drug bust on George Washington Memorial Highway Friday morning. The suspect was taken into custody.

 

Deputies say that an investigation led to an arrest of Edward Cole, a fugitive out of Hampton. Deputies approached Cole while at the Shell gas station In Hayes on Friday. When Cole attempted to flee the area in his vehicle, he struck several unmarked police cars while trying to exit the parking lot.

Deputies were able to stop Cole’s vehicle and make the arrest.

Two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Upon the search of Coles vehicle a .40 semi-auto handgun and 33.1 grams of crack cocaine were discovered.

Cole is facing the following charges; unauthorized use of a vehicle, disregarding signal by law-enforcement officer to stop; eluding police, hit and run- attended property, hit and run- attended property, hit and run- attended property, destruction of property and driving while license, permit, or privilege to drive suspended, second offense.

Additional charges from previous narcotics purchases will be obtained at a later date.
