SMITHFIELD (WAVY) – One of the biggest sponsors in NASCAR is located in Hampton Roads, and on Thursday afternoon, a number of Smithfield NASCAR fans enjoyed a day at Smithfield Foods’ headquarters.
FOX Sports 1 broadcast the event during a live edition of “Race Hub,” with on-site host Adam Alexander and longtime NASCAR crew chief, now analyst Larry McReynolds providing the commentary. Smithfield-sponsored drivers Aric Almirola and Brian Scott were both on hand to sign autographs, take pictures, and Almirola- driver of the 43 car- even hosted a bacon-eating contest.
All of those names paled in comparison to the man many came to see; “the King” Richard Petty, who is also the owner of Almirola’s 43, and Scott’s 44 car.
“It’s great to come here to Smithfield and see all the people that’s kind of backing us and our race car, say ‘thank you’ for all the hard work they do, it’s been a big, big, nice day up here,” said the 7-time Daytona 500 and cup champion.
