Police looking for teen who fired gun on train tracks

Officers caught up with two of the juvenile suspects.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Mary Passage Middle School was on lockdown Friday afternoon as police investigated an incident involving gunfire nearby.

According to Newport News Police spokesman Lou Thurston, several teens were reportedly firing shots into the air while standing on railroad tracks. Officers responded and chased after the juveniles. Thurston said officers caught up with two of them, but the one with the gun got away and was last seen running in the direction of Mary Passage, which prompted the lockdown.

Thurston said it is also against the law to be on the tracks.
