Man arrested, charged in shooting of 17-year-old in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with a shooting that sent a 17-year-old to the hospital Thursday.

Robert Norman Freeman, 25, is facing multiple charges for the shooting, which police say happened Thursday night near the 1000 block of West Mercury Boulevard.

Officers were called to the scene at 9:45 p.m., and found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and treated for a non life-threatening injury.

According to police, Freeman and the 17-year-old got into an altercation, when Freeman pulled out a gun and shot him. Freeman reportedly ran from the scene after this, but was found by officers a shot time later.

Freeman is currently being held at Hampton City Jail.

He is facing charges of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, willfully discharging a firearm in a public place, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
