Norfolk man to serve 30 years for child sexual assault case

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Wendell Bernard Williams of Norfolk, will serve 30 years in prison for the sexual assault of a minor after being sentenced Tuesday.

In 2008, the victim told about the abuse to a therapist and a relative. An investigation was immediately launched by Virginia Beach police. In 2015, additional evidence in the case was found, and Williams confessed to sexually assaulting the minor.

Williams was found guilty after a trial in January of 2016. Prosecutors were able to prove that between 1999 – 2004, Williams sexually assaulted the child, who was known to him.

The formal charges Williams was found guilty of were rape-victim under age 13 and object sexual penetration. Williams was sentenced to 60 years in prison with 30 years suspended.

Williams has a prior conviction for possession of cocaine.
