CHESAPEAKE (WAVY) – Oscar Smith High School has hired Bill Dee to be their new head football coach.
Dee was the head coach at Phoebus High School where he won four state championships and compiled a 243-76-1 record from 1985 – 2008. Most recently Dee was an assistant coach at Old Dominion University for five seasons.
Among the dozens of applicants, athletic director Todd Parker zeroed in on Dee, who returns to the high school ranks.
“Coach Morgan and I had a very close relationship,” Dee said. “I know a lot about a lot of the kids. I know a lot of the alumni, I know a lot of the supporters here.”
Quarterback Shon Mitchell says he is excited about playing for a coach that has sent dozens of players to college during his time at Phoebus.
“He coached Tahj Boyd at Phoebus, four state championship games,” Mitchell said. “Definitely looking forward to him and what he has to offer this program.”
