The Tides rally from five run deficit, beat Charlotte 7-6 to open series

NORFOLK (WAVY) – The Norfolk Tides led early, then trailed late, trailed big, and somehow found themselves on the winning side of things at Harbor Park on Monday night.

Darial Alverez hit a go-ahead, RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a 5-run rally, and the Tides (2-3) went on for a 7-6 win.

Christian Walker and Audry Perez each connected on solo home runs in the first and second inning to give Norfolk a 2-0 lead. The Knights (1-3) scored six unanswered runs, five of them in the seventh inning and looked like they were headed for a come-from-behind victory.

Henry Urrutia drove in a run to make it 6-3, then red-hot Audry Perez and Ozzie Martinez provided some hope with sacrifice-fly RBI’s, cutting the lead to 6-5. L.J. Hoes tied the game with an RBI single, after which Alverez delivered the game-winner the very next inning.

Oliver Drake earned the save, allowing two hits but striking out one in the final inning of play. The Tides and Knights resume the series Tuesday night at 6:35.
