NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Fire and Rescue units responded to a residential fire in the 100 block of Beverly Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
Dispatch received the call at 2:00 p.m. and units arrived on scene at 2:03 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw that smoke was showing from the one and half story building and when they entered the structure, they discovered the fire was inside the first floor bedroom.
Fire crews conducted fire suppression efforts and a primary search of the home for any people inside and located an elderly woman who was conscious when firefighters located her on the bed. She was safely removed from the home and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire fighters were able to contain the fire and was deemed under control at 2:15 p.m.
None of the 26 firefighters that were on scene were reported injured.
The cause of fire is still under investigation.
