VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The man accused of organizing a violent burglary in Ohio was recaptured in Virginia Beach.

Authorities say 28-year-old Mohammad Hamad was fleeing charges against him in Ohio. He was taken into custody in the area of Chic’s Beach on Wednesday.

Hamad is alleged to have organized a burglary in May of  2014 where an elderly lady was bound with duct tape in her home while several people stole her jewelry — which was estimated to be worth $150,000.

Hamad was charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping for his alleged role in the burglary.

He fled Ohio after the incident, and was captured in Norfolk in May of 2014.

He was taken back to Ohio, and placed on home electronic monitoring. However, he cut the device from his ankle in July of 2015. An arrest warrant was issued for Hamad on July 31, 2015.

Last week, U.S. Marshals in Ohio received information that Hamad was hiding in Hampton Roads. They captured him with the help of the Virginia Beach Fugitive Unit.

Hamad is currently being held at the Virginia Beach City Jail.
