Outage leaves two schools, hundreds without power in NN

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two Newport News schools are without power due to an outage caused near Lucas Creek Road.

According to Dominion Virginia Power’s outage map, more nearly 2,200 customers were initially without power. Now that number is down to 893.

Dominion spokesperson Bonita Harris says B.C. Charles Elementary School and Menchville High School are without power. Newport News City Schools are on spring break this week, so students are not in the schools at the moment.

Harris says the outage was caused by a power pole that broke after a tree fell near Lucas Creek Road and Cabell Drive.

Dominion is currently working to reroute power at the moment. Harris says this is expected to take a while because crews will have to replace the pole and repair the wires.
