Police seeking people of interest in Portsmouth murder

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Detectives are seeking two people of interest in the shooting death of 20-year-old Demond T. Mitchell.

Police are looking for 24-year-old D’Marcus Heflin of Chesapeake and 25-year-old Bilal Boyce of South Mills, North Carolina.

Heflin is described as 5’8” tall around 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Boyce is described as 5’9″ around 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Mitchell was identified as the victim in a shooting on Monday in the 900 block of Suburban Parkway. The homicide is the first in Portsmouth of 2016.

Mitchell was rushed from the scene by medics following the shooting, and was pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The emergency call came in at 5:07 p.m. Police arrived to the scene and found Mitchell outside suffering from a gunshot wound. Detective Misty Holley confirmed that Mitchell was found in a grassy area between houses.

A neighbor told WAVY.com she heard five to six gunshots and then saw Mitchell lying in the grass.
