Iowa man accused of using jail’s checking account to pay his cable bill

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWQC) – Police say a former inmate used the Johnson County Jail’s bank account to pay his cable bill.

Lorenzo B. Johnson, Jr., 33, of Tiffin, Iowa is accused of identity theft.

Investigators say the charge stems from his receiving a check from the jail after he was released on other charges last December.

Various media reports say the check was for the balance on Johnson’s commissary account.

Investigators say the check gave Johnson the jail’s “bank and routing number needed for the transaction.”

According to a filed complaint, the transaction was a $350.16 payment toward Johnson’s Mediacom bill at his apartment.
