VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A former Virginia Beach postal worker pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing mail.

Trazzonna Jacobs, 27, worked at the Bayside Postal Station where she stole a $100 gift card and $7,000 in cash from two separate packages.

The investigation started when someone reported missing a gift card. Court documents say Jacobs was seen on surveillance video redeeming the gift card.

Another customer said she told Jacobs of the $7,000 in the box to ensure its safety. Jacobs’ fingerprints were found on that package.

Jacobs admitted to stealing the money, saying she needed it to help pay bills and support her family.

She’s due back in court in July and faces up to five years in prison.
