Damaged boats to be removed from Urbanna Creek in fire investigation

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Nearly a month after a deadly fire struck the Dozier’s Port Urbanna Marina, investigators are continuing to work out what caused it.

Virginia State Police say crews will be removing damaged boats from Urbanna Creek. Police say determining the origin of the fire will require a close examination of the boats.

The cause of the fire was initially ruled as undetermined.

The fire resulted in the deaths of 75-year-old Francis Xavier Blantz and 65-year-old Julia J. Blantz — and completely destroyed a boathouse.

State Police say it will continue its investigation once it the boats are removed from the water.
