Chesapeake’s Briante Weber gets NBA shot with Memphis

(WAVY) — With injuries mounting, the Memphis Grizzlies have signed Briante Weber from Chesapeake to a 10-day contract. Weber went to Great Bridge High School and starred at VCU. Last year, during his senior season, Weber was 12 steals away from setting the NCAA’s all-time record when he suffered tears in his ACL, MCL and meniscus.

Fast forward one year later, and Weber is in the NBA.

“I don’t even think there is a word in the dictionary or a phrase in a book that can explain the way I feel just getting the opportunity, Weber said.  “I can’t even tell you how it feels.”

Weber is a defensive specialist, and his best game in his brief NBA stint was a 10 point, 7 assist performance in a win over New Orleans.

“I had a little jitters and butterflies, but it’s all coming from a good place,” Weber said.  “I was comfortable  because of the teammates behind me, they talked to me and let me know ‘you’re going to be good’.”

There’s no guarantee that Weber will stick with the Grizzlies, but he’s been given the chance to show off his skills against top competition as he learns the nuances of life in the league.
