New Jersey man arrested by Hampton Police, charged with maiming

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A New Jersey man was arrested by Hampton Police this week for an assault incident that happened on March 4.

Harold Treacher, 26, has been charged with maiming, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and reckless handling of a firearm.

According to police, officers were dispatched to reports of a large crowd complaint in the 3800 block of Kecoughtan Road. The crowd dispersed after officers showed up.

An investigation showed that a 27-year-old Hampton man was physically assaulted during a verbal argument with a man, who was later identified as Treacher.

Treacher allegedly displayed a firearm and began assaulting the man. During this assault, Treacher accidentally fired the gun.

No one was hurt after the weapon was fired.
