SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The case of a 3-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in February is going to be reviewed by the Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Diana Klink with Suffolk Police confirmed Thursday that the case has been handed over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Police say the child suffered from non life-threatening injuries from the Feb. 17 incident at a house Jonathans Way.

The child accidentally shot himself after he found his parents’ handgun, which police say was kept in the home for protection.

He was taken to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
