Teen arrested after weekend Hampton shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Police have arrested a 16-year-old Hampton male in a shooting that happened in the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard on Saturday, March 5th.

Police dispatch confirmed the call for the shooting came in at 3:29 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene and found a 17-year-old male suffering from life threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported where he remains hospitalized and his condition has been upgraded to stable.

The investigation shows that this incident was not a random act of violence. The suspect and victim knew each other and planned to meet in the wooded area located to the rear of Nickerson Plaza Shopping Center. While the two were meeting, the suspect displayed a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. The full motive and circumstances still remain under investigation.

After the investigation, police charged the suspect with one count of aggravated malicious wounding and one count of use of firearm in commission of a felony. This teenager remains in custody at a Juvenile Detention Center.
