GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) – The Stop & Go in Gloucester Point sold another winning lottery ticket to a Newport News man for the second time within the last three months.
Marcell Parker, of Newport News, saw a sign inside the store as he was walking out that said someone had won $5 million playing the Virginia lottery at the same store in December. After looking at that, Parker decided to go back in and buy a 20x the money scratch off ticket. When he scratched it, he discovered he’d just won the $1 million top prize.
“It was breathtaking,” he said. “I don’t even remember the trip home.”
The prize was a choice between $1 million over 30 years or a cash option of $537,393 before taxes. He chose the cash option. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Parker said he has no immediate plans for his winnings, except to take care of his mother.
