VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A local man will be sentenced to 46 years in prison for a 2003 attempted robbery and abduction case in Virginia Beach.
Jesse Daniel Lugaro was found guilty Wednesday of attempted robbery, three counts of abduction and use of a firearm. The jury also fixed his punishment to 46 years in prison.
According to court documents, Lugaro forced his way in the back door of a Subway restaurant on Princess Anne. He pointed a revolver at the employees and locked two of them in the freezer. He forced a third employee to open the cash register, but it was empty because the employees had already completed the cash drop for the night. Lugaro fled the Subway empty-handed.
Lugaro is already serving a 27-year sentence for a 2012 home invasion robbery case in Virginia Beach. He also has several convictions for robbery in North Carolina.
He will be formally sentenced on June 6.
