Housing Authority to implode Lincoln Park Apartment Tower

The implosion will make way for a new community for families.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — The Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority (HRHA) has announced that the Lincoln Park Apartment Tower will be imploded on March 13.

The high-rise tower is the largest public housing building in the city. The Housing Authority says this scheduled implosion will make way for a new community for families of all incomes.

“Redevelopment on the site will not only be a dramatic improvement for the residents of the development,” says Ronald Jackson, Executive Director of the HRHA. “It should also encourage reinvestment in surrounding properties.”

The Housing Authority will implode the tower on March 13 in a ceremony beginning at 7:15 a.m.

The first residents of the redeveloped community are expected to move in some time during 2019.
