NWS confirms tornado in Ala.; injuries, damaged homes reported

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The National Weather Service confirms a tornado hit in the McAdory area of West Jefferson County.

Injuries have been reported, as well as damage to homes.

The Jefferson County Sheriff says four people were injured and taken to the hospital.

There are eight homes with major damage on Lou George Loop to Pocahontas Road.

Sgt. Jack Self was on the Pocahontas Road area. He reports downed trees and power lines.

He reported emergency response teams were going house to house in the area, checking on people and clearing the roads for ambulances to come through.

He says the power is out in the Dickey Springs Bessemer/McCalla area. Roads are blocked by debris.

Katie Bolton with Alabama Power said, there are 6,800 outages statewide.
