Medics, patient sent to hospital after truck crashes into ambulance

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighter medics and a patient were sent to the hospital after an International truck collided with an ambulance near Mercury Boulevard overnight.

Police say a 2004 International truck was merging onto Warwick Boulevard from Mercury Boulevard when it attempted to make a turn in front of an ambulance traveling north on Warwick.

The driver of the ambulance attempted to avoid the truck, but the truck continued into the lane, resulting in a crash. The ambulance veered into the median where it stopped.

Responded to a call about the crash around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighter medics and a patient were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for injuries and released.

James Timothy Davis, 65, the driver of the truck, has been issued a summons for reckless driving.
