5 people displaced after garage fire in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Emergency crews are on the scene of a garage fire in the 900 block of Minneapolis Drive.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a fire in the garage area of a two-story townhouse. Firefighters rapidly extinguished the fire and performed a search of the home and two other neighboring townhouses.

According to VBFD Battalion Chief Brian Sullivan, the fire started in the vehicle in the garage and then spread throughout. The fire was limited to the garage and the only damage to the attached home was smoke-related.

The residents, three adults and two children, were home at the time but made it out safely. The residents are displaced due to smoke damage on the interior. The Red Cross is stepping in assist those displaced.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
