Police release name of woman killed in Hampton crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Emergency crews responded to a fatal accident that occurred at East Mercury Boulevard and Cherry Acres Drive Saturday night.

According to Hampton Police PIO Sgt. Matt Bond, officers arrived to the scene at 9:56 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located a single vehicle, a 2002 Ford Escape, that was overturned. The driver of the vehicle, identified Sunday as 37-year-old Shakura Yasmine Adams of Hampton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police initially released that the victim was pregnant, but said Sunday that further investigation revealed that was not the case

The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling East on East Mercury Boulevard when the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway causing the automobile to flip.

Cherry Acres Drive and eastbound East Mercury Boulevard was closed to all but one lane of traffic while police investigated Saturday night.
