CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Crews with the Chesapeake Fire Department are on the scene of a house fire in the 2400 block of Mount Pleasant Road (Route 165).

Fire officials tweeted at 11:21 a.m. that crews arrived on scene at 10:48 Wednesday morning and found flames coming from a single-story house along that road.

Cpt. Scott Saunders says  two pets — a cat and a bird — died in Wednesday’s fire. The fire also displaced four adults, due to extensive damage to the home.

The fire was brought under control at 11:36 a.m.

Saunders says one firefighter was sustained minor injuries after a fall. He said the displaced residents have made area lodging arrangements.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
