VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach judge has officially imposed a life sentence on a man who was convicted of molesting a child last year.

In September of 2015, a jury found 36-year-old Michael Scott McCann guilty of object sexual penetration.

The jury fixed the sentence at life in prison — which is mandatory based on the charge and age of the victim. Circuit Court Judge A. Bonwill Shockley formally imposed the sentence Tuesday.

Evidence proved that between June and September of 2014, McCann sexually molested a child known to him. The child disclosed the abuse to a trusting adult. McCann denied the abuse.

McCann also has prior convictions for forgery, uttering and petit larceny.
