Lady Monarchs run past Marshall 77-55

NORFOLK (WAVY) – Jennie Simms fell just four assists shy of a triple-double, logging 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists in Old Dominion’s 77-55 win over Marshall on Saturday evening.

The Lady Monarchs (12-14, 8-6 in Conference USA) trailed 34-30 at halftime, but outscored the Thundering Herd (16-9, 6-8 CUSA) 28-10 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

Simms had plenty of help, as four other Lady Monarchs scored in double figures. Destinee Young booked a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds), Keyana Brown netted 12 points, all on four 3-pointers, Ije Ajemba fell just one rebound shy of a double-double (11 points, 9 rebounds), and Gianna Smith scored 10.

A huge task but a big opportunity lies ahead for coach Karen Barefoot’s team, which heads to first-place Texas El-Paso (13-1, 7-0 CUSA) on  Thursday. That game tips off at 9:00 pm eastern standard time.
