Intense flames destroy Norfolk business

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews responded to a commercial structure fire in the 3600 block of North Military Highway, early Saturday morning.

Emergency dispatchers received the call at 12:38 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy black smoke and fire coming from the Loan Max building at the corner of North Military Highway and Norvella Avenue, according to Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Brian Nichols. The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm fire due to the heavy volume of fire.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control at 2:15 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The building is considered to be a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
