NN Police conduct prostitution sweeps in ‘National Day of Johns Arrests’

A total of 24 people were arrested and charged with prostitution-related offenses.

An undercover prostitution sweep in Newport News on the nights of Jan. 29 & Feb. 5, 2016 led to 24 arrests.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Officers with the Newport News Police Department recently conducted prostitution sweeps as a part of the Cook County Illinois Sheriff’s Office’s “National Day of Johns Arrests.”

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office organizes the National Day of Johns Arrests by working with police departments across the United States.

Members of the Newport News Police Department’s Organized Crime Division (OCD), patrol officers and intelligence detectives took part in undercover prostitution sweeps on Jan. 29 and Feb. 5 of this year.

A total of 24 people were arrested and charged with prostitution-related offenses as a result of the sweeps.

Police say information regarding suspected prostitution activities may be reported to police by calling the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
