Norfolk Councilman Andy Protogyrou kicks off mayoral campaign

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Councilman Andy Protogyrou has officially kicked off his campaign for mayor.

He held an event at the Annuciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Monday night. Family, friends and supporters all turned out for the speeches, food and entertainment.

Of the three candidates running this year — Protogyrou says his experience stands out.

“What sets me apart is the oaths I’ve taken in my lifetime, I’ve been a VMI Cadet, an officer in the United State Army Reserve, National Guard, I’ve been a lawyer, I’ve been a councilman, a substitute judge, and now I’m ready to be your mayor,” said Protogyrou.

Protogyrou says he’s focused on open government, business development, schools and building up neighborhoods.

The election is in May.
