SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of an 81-year-old Courtland woman Wednesday night, according to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened near the intersection of Main Street and Rochelle Street in Courtland at 5:12 p.m. Wednesday.
Alice Ricks, 81, was one of the drivers in the crash, and was pronounced dead at the scene after crews tried to resuscitate her.
Deputies have determined that the two cars involved crashed head-on after the car Ricks was driving crossed the center line of the street.
Ricks did not have any passengers in her car, and it was also determined that she was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the second car and a juvenile passenger were both taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital and were treated for non life-threatening injuries. Deputies say they were properly restrained.
The Sheriff’s Office says that neither speed nor alcohol are believed to have been factors. There was heavy rain at the time of the crash.
