Portsmouth-based Cutter Northland returns home

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The Portsmouth-based Cutter Northland has returned to its home port.

The Northland was on a 56-day patrol in the Eastern Pacific, which the U.S. Coast Guard says resulted in the combined seizure of more than 7,500 kilograms (16,500 pounds) of cocaine and methamphetamine.

The drug seizures were part of Operation Martillo, an international effort to between air, land and maritime assets to counter illegal drug trafficking.

The effort has included the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as Western Hemisphere and European partner agencies.
